    Mandatory Trainings

    From Ophelia:

Please note that these trainings are required for all employees by the HITS and HR departments. The two training sessions are outlined below.

        1)    Cyber Security Awareness Training was set up by HITS department and is required to be completed by each employee City-wide.  The training has two levels:  Level I has 24 modules and will take approximately 1.5 hours to complete. Level II has 12 modules and is estimated to take about one hour to complete.  Please be on the lookout for an email directly from HITS providing specific instructions for these training sessions.

         2)    Executive Order 1-50: Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Annual Training (Web-Based Training).  This training is mandatory for all COH employees and must be completed by June 30, 2014. Per HR, this web-based training is designed to run only on Internet Explorer browsers.  Other browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, are known to fail with this content module.  Therefore, the use of Internet Explorer is required to complete this mandatory training.  Please plan on completing this training in IE so we will be in compliance with this City mandate.

Leave Computers on Tonight

Form Roosevelt:
Team –

Our Digital Strategies (formerly IT) division and the Houston Information Technology Services department (HITS) remotely send out updates to our computers. These updates normally occur during off-hours. It is very important that you leave on all computers (public, staff, circulation, catalog, etc) in your area. Please do not turn off you computer when you leave for the day. When the computers are not on, it is impossible for them to be updated with important updates and security fixes. A major security fix will take place today and it is imperative that all computers are on to get this fix.

Please leave all computers on every day until further notice. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our helpdesk at 832-393-1570. Thanks in advance for your help.

SRP Read Down Your Fines

From Sandy:
Fred Shumacher and Thuy Vo have made a training video for the Read Down Your Fines program this summer. Please watch the video as it includes vital information on coupon handling. This will be necessary for a smooth summer. If you are a manager, please have your entire staff watch the video.

I have also received word that coupons should begin to go out by the end of next week. Remember: the child qualifies for a coupon just by registering for SRP,  so please remember to add a note that the child did NOT receive the registration coupon in the notes field of the child’s Summer Reader record. Once coupons are available and they have been disbursed it is very important to go into the child’s record and DELETE this note.

This is a great opportunity for all the children of Houston to have the library freely available to them this summer. Every book read is an another opportunity for a child to succeed. Please encourage your customers to participate.

Email Reference Form

From Saima:
Per staff and customer feedback, Email Reference form has been revised to include more options and menus. The new form lets customers provide much more information about  e-books and library account questions. More information minimizes staff time and allows them to provide answers in less time.

Please share this information with your staff especially those who regularly work with email reference form.

The new form is available at (same URL as before): http://www.houstonlibrary.org/emailref

Do let me know if you have any questions.
