On Monday, November 18th the empty CD racks near the DVDs were filled with children CDs. The adult CDs are in alphabetical order by genre (Classic, C/W, HIP, HOL, etc.) and within those categories, by artist's name (according to the label on the CD).

The children CDs on the racks are also in alphabetical order.

Display Boards

We had Danielle Burns come by Kashmere to take a look at our display walls. She is a curator and does many displays for the Gregory School and other locations. I asked if she would come and put displays on our walls that could tie into displays she has going at other locations. She loved the idea and is willing to work with us. The displays may change every 3 to 6 months and I think may be good for our customers to see different artistic displays.
This being said the display boards that Dee and Dionne are currently in charge of will be moved to the ones behind the desk. Everyone is encouraged to participate in helping them set up or come up with ideas for the boards. I want to thank everyone for the great job they are doing and keep up your artistic creations.

New Computer Class Surveys

Cylenthia Hoyrd shared this.  Please see below for the new Computer class survey.

As you are aware the Computer Class Survey we were using for the past year has been recently discontinued by TSLAC.  In order to assure we provide an avenue for customers to provide feedback on the Computer Classes there has been a new form added to the HPL website.  This tool is not a Program Evaluation Form, but is intended to be used to assess the quality of the Computer Classes provided by HPL and our partners.  Thanks for all of your input and feedback during its development.

The Computer Class Survey can be found on the Houston Public Library website; www.houstonlibrary.org under the Services tabComputer Class Section and theAdministrative Forms page.  I am also providing the links below which will take instructors and students directly to the form as well.  Please share with your staff throughout the system, especially those that provide computer instruction and Open Job Lab support.  The use of the survey is of course optional but we encourage feedback from all of our customers.  The Virtual Services Team along with myself will compile the results of the surveys and monitor any requests and concerns.

Link directly to the survey:  http://hpl.lib.tx.us/student-surveys   or

Link directly to Administrative Forms page:   http://hpl.lib.tx.us/a-administrative-forms

If there are any questions please contact me at 3-1623.  Thanks again, and have a great day!

Periodicals Update

From Syma:
As of yesterday, periodicals for all Neighborhood Library locations and for Central Kids, Teen, and World Languages display in the catalog with holdings of “Most Current 6 Months.” This is visible when you go into full detail display on a title.  In the next day or so, item entries displaying a status of “check shelf for most current issue” will display on the initial results page.   For Central Adult periodicals and Special Collections periodicals, these generic messages will not display.  Instead, their full holdings statements and current check-in information will be visible.

We realize that these generic entries are not precisely accurate for each location and each title but we needed to do this as a mass update to get the periodical information to display in the catalog.  Pat Ogea and the rest of her serials team will be working with you to get everyone checking in their periodicals on Sirsi and cleaning up the data.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

New Books Update

From Syma:
Many of the new books we have on order do not appear in Enterprise.  This is due to a problem we are experiencing with “dummy items.”  We are making a special effort to make sure that hot titles that we have on order do display in the catalog.  However, other titles that are not anticipated bestsellers do not always display.  If a customer is concerned about a particular title and you do not see it in the catalog, please double-check in Workflows.  We hope to have the issue resolved in the next week or two.  I will send an update at that time.
