This is just a quick message to let you know that the Paging Lists are fixed, and your current list is available on the Intranet.  Clean Holds Shelf reports should be fixed and updated by the morning.  Thanks to those who called to let me know about the issue.  If you encounter any further difficulties, please let me know.

New Site is Up Today!

From Greg:
Tomorrow we will launch a brand new HPL website!  As Dr. Lawson mentioned in her message last week, she tasked Virtual Library Services with developing a new site that is fast, engaging and intuitive for our customers, while being efficient and user-friendly for staff.

The new site is built in Drupal, an open-source Content Management System that will allow us much greater flexibility in the ongoing development of the site.  Additionally, the new site is designed to be responsive to the variety of devices that customers might use to access our site.

We also had several goals in mind in terms of the customer experience with the site, wanting it to be:
·         Engaging and visually appealing
·         Dynamic, in terms of the ability to frequently change content
·         More interactive
·         User friendly
It is important to note that we see the site as constantly evolving and growing.  We have a list of items and content that we plan to add to the site in phases after the initial launch, so if you don’t see something on the site immediately, it is likely that it is scheduled as part of a later phase of development.

Customer and staff feedback are important to this process, and are welcomed.  The new site will have a feedback link for customer and staff use in the header of the main page.  Questions placed in this form will go directly to Virtual Library Services.

Your support is critical to the success of this transition!  We have developed a short list of FAQ’s and a brief overview of the site to help you prepare to assist customers, which you can view on Inside HPL, our intranet site, at this address:  https://hplnet.hpl.lib.tx.us/depts/it/website-FAQs.pdf

Please note that the technical transition to the new site has begun, so you (and our customers) might actually see the new site later this evening!

Finally, feel free to contact the Virtual Library Services team at hplvirtuallibrary@houstontx.gov if you have any questions.

Leave Computers on Today

From Judith:
Dear HPL Staff,

This is a reminder that the SirsiDynix Symphony system will be upgraded tonight.  The three important things to remember are:

1)      All computers with a Workflows client should be left ON when you leave the library on  tonight so staff in IT can push out the upgrade.

2)      All self checks should be turned OFF before you leave the building.

3)      When you arrive at work tomorrow, bring up your Workflows clients and verify that your client was upgraded to version 3.4.1.5.

If you workstation did not upgrade or you have any issues with your computer, please contact  our helpdesk at 832-393-1570.

Thank you for your assistance with this upgrade.

Leave Computers On 10/21/14

From Judith:

There will be a SirsiDynix Symphony software  upgrade to Service Pack 5 on Tuesday, October 21st beginning at 10:00 PM Central Time.   The upgrade will last until approximately 2:00 AM.  Searches may work in the Enterprise catalog while the system is down, but customers will not be able to place holds or reach their accounts during that time.

All workstations that have the Workflows software will need to be upgraded before the libraries open on Wednesday, October 22nd.  We will upgrade the clients remotely.  All computers with a Workflows client should be left ON when you leave the library on October 21st so staff in IT can push out the upgrade.  We recommend that you bring up your Workflows clients  before the library opens on the 22nd to verify that there are no issues.  If you have any issues with your computer, please contact the our helpdesk at 832-393-1570.

If you have any questions concerning the upgrade, please don’t hesitate to give me a call.
