SRP UPDATE: Family Prize Packs

Good afternoon!

Family Prize Packs for SRP are being built right now. We are waiting for 2 more books to come in before we can complete them and send them out.

If you have customers completing the program and coming in for prize packs, please let them know that they will be coming out to the branches shortly. People are completing the program a bit quicker than we anticipated, but we are doing our best to get the prize packs out in a timely manner.

Please DO NOT award the prize in Beanstack until you have given the prize pack to give to the customer.

Also, please don't try to create your own prize packs with the books that you have for SRP registration-the prize packs contain different books than what you have on hand (including books for the adult), and have been carefully selected for specific age groups. SRP registration prize books are separate from that, and if staff tries to create prize packs from those books, you will quickly deplete your supply of books.

Pension Reform Law Meeting

The pension reform law was signed by the governor and will take effect on July 1, 2017. Representatives from the Houston Municipal Employees Pension System (HMEPS) will be at the Central Library - 500 McKinney in the Concourse Meeting room on Wednesday, July 12 at 9:00 AM to discuss this new law and how it will impact us. This new law will impact every full-time employee. Pension contributions will change and those changes will be reflected in your July 21 payroll check. Please come out and these representatives will answer any questions that you may have.

KAS: Hours of Operation Installation

Hello,

Please be aware that SPACES is sending Thomas Printworks to replace hours signage on the glass entrance doors at Kashmere NL. They will be coming out in the next couple of weeks (but there is not a set date and time). For our branch, the hours of operation will be placed on the inside of the glass in the same location where the current sign is located (right entrance door near the bottom of the glass pane). The old signage will be removed.

Thomas Printworks has all the precise installation instructions.

Please direct any vendors from this company to the location of the hours of operation signage. Should you have any questions, please let a supervisor know so that they may contact the appropriate persons in SPACES.

UPDATE: Learning Link Expiration Date

The user privilege expiration dates for the Learning Link cards in the system have been extended to 08/31/2017. Every student with a Learning Link card now has access to our materials through the coming summer.

Information Security Notification - Ransomware Alert Update

As you have undoubtedly heard in the news there is a major world-wide ransomware virus spreading throughout the Internet and computer systems. The COH team along with teams from the various departments departments including HPL have been working to mitigate any vulnerable systems around the city. We ask that you please be extra vigilant in accessing unknown links, unfamiliar websites and suspicious emails. This virus will quickly replicate itself across systems on the network from an infected computer. We ask that you immediately contact the HPL IT HelpDesk if you notice any unusual behavior with your computer or any computers in your work area or location. With respect to public facing computers, our filtering software is blocking the virus from being downloaded.
